What Is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a feeling of deep relaxation throughout your body, while your mind stays focused and alert. Being in this hypnotic state allows your conscious mind, or ego, to observe while allowing your hypnotherapist to access your subconscious and make positive changes that you’ve requested. This state allows the hypnotherapist to access your subconscious mind where the positive change and transformation you want can begin.

Hypnosis is a completely natural state. In fact, we all go in and out of hypnosis throughout the day. Have you ever been lost in a daydream and then snapped back into your conscious reality? Maybe you’ve been driving and missed your exit on the freeway? Or, been deeply absorbed in a movie and forgot you are actually in a room full of strangers watching actors on a screen?  All of these are all examples of being in a state of hypnosis.

What Hypnosis is NOT

When most people hear the word "hypnosis"  they think of swinging watches and the hypnotists telling someone to bark like a dog or cluck like a chicken on command. While that kind of hypnosis does exist, it is for the sole purposes of entertainment on the stages of a Las Vegas show.

Clinical hypnotherapy is very different. You are completely alert and in full control of your mind and body while in a hypnotic state. You can hear and speak. Your body is deeply relaxed and comfortable. You will never be asked to disclose any secrets or do anything you would not ordinarily want to do. The goals of your session are predetermined by you and reviewed before you enter a therapeutic state. At Blue Stone Therapies, hypnotherapy is honored and used only as a healing tool.

Does Hypnotherapy really work?

Absolutely. In recent years hypnosis and hypnotherapy have become accepted medical treatments to address a wide variety of issues and conditions. Researchers and professors in universities such as Stanford, Harvard, and Penn State, just to name a few, have conducted clinical studies in hypnosis and found that hypnosis does in fact create measurable results and can be used for a multitude of conditions. I’ve been very successful in using hypnotherapy to help clients with a multitude of issues including improving self-confidence, helping them to stop smoking or drinking, achieving significant weight loss, reducing or even eliminating anxiety. Hypnotherapy is a very powerful and effective tool and its results are long-lasting.

How does Hypnotherapy work?

When you are in a hypnotic state, your conscious mind has been relaxed. This allows the hypnotherapist to work directly with your subconscious mind. The subconscious mind holds our blueprint, or "programming", much like a computer. You can "know" in your conscious mind that you want to make a change and feel committed to make that change, but if your computer is programmed to keep doing the same thing, it will be nearly impossible to make positive change unless you change the programming. That's essentially what hypnotherapy will accomplish. When you change your subconscious programming, new behavior follows.

Do you offer in-person sessions?

Yes!  I offer in-person sessions on Monday and Tuesday. Parking is surprisingly easy considering we are downtown so please see the website map for parking suggestions. I appreciate the focused time in person as I read and respond to your body language, and can sense shifts sometimes not visible to me in a virtual session. Most importantly, please choose the type of session that works best for you.

Does Hypnotherapy work virtually?

It does. The reason hypnotherapy works so well virtually, is because hypnotherapy is primarily an audio-based therapy. You simply need to close your eyes and listen. Whether you choose to experience hypnotherapy In person or through a virtual session is specific to each client. I have found that some clients enjoy virtual sessions because they are relaxed at home, while others do better in a dedicated, quiet, therapeutic space of my office. Virtual sessions require that you have headphones that connect to your mobile phone, and a quiet, comfortable, distraction-free space to relax.

How much do sessions cost?

Please see the Pricing page.

What does hypnosis feel like?

Hypnosis is a very comfortable, peaceful and pleasant feeling. Your body is extremely relaxed but your mind is aware. Clients have said they felt warm, cool, floating, tingly, a wave of love, they’ve heard voices, they feel movement in their body, and one asked if I had hugged them. (I did not)  You may feel peaceful, reflective, and likely rejuvenated.

Will I lose control?

No. Again, you are completely aware of the session. You will hear my voice and will be able to answer questions. Blue Stone Therapies respects your privacy and as with any therapy, all sessions are confidential. Further, you cannot be hypnotized unwillingly, and you cannot be prompted to do anything outside the boundaries of your personal values or to say or reveal anything you wouldn’t ordinarily say.

Can I get stuck in hypnosis?

No, you are able to come out of hypnosis any time you wish. Just as you can’t get ‘stuck’ asleep or awake, you can’t get stuck in a hypnotic state. Sessions are scheduled for specific time frames and I will gently bring you out of your therapeutic state with plenty of time to regain full alertness before your session ends. If on some unexpected day I am abducted by aliens during your session, you will naturally return to full awareness on your own.

Does insurance cover Hypnotherapy?

Although Blue Stone Therapies does not accept insurance, there are occasionally small group sessions that might offer more affordable options to accessing Hypnotherapy and Clinical Behavioral Therapy. This is only suggested when a group of 7-10 people are working toward similar goals, as the sessions are focused on a narrow objective and must align within the group.

What happens in the first Hypnotherapy session?

The first session is the longest one at 90 minutes as it begins with 45 minutes of Clinical Behavioral Therapy.

  1. On your first session, we start with an in-depth consultation to understand what specific challenges you are struggling with, what your conscious awareness of those challenges might be, and what your hopes are for hypnotherapy sessions together.

  2. I will share a diagram with you about how hypnotherapy works in the mind, and what you might expect to feel and experience while in a hypnotic state.

  3. The third part of the first session is your hypnotherapy experience where your subconscious blueprint begins to be rewritten. Most clients report feeling tingles, floating, sometimes emotional, and always positive and uplifted.
